Producers respond to City of Port Rupert

Official Response to the City of Port Rupert, BC

Re: Hunting Matthew Nichols

We recently received a formal request from the City of Port Rupert, located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, asking that we withdraw our film, Hunting Matthew Nichols, from the upcoming Whistler Film Festival on December 7 and 8, 2024, and cease any future screenings.

Vital stories are often the ones that spark heated dialogue. While the themes of Hunting Matthew Nichols are challenging, they are intended to foster meaningful conversations. We encourage all audiences of the film to approach it with an open mind and engage in thoughtful, respectful dialogue around the wide variety of stories being showcased at this year's Whistler Film Festival.

We fully acknowledge the concerns raised by the City of Port Rupert and take them with the utmost seriousness. As producers and storytellers, we are open to dialogue and respect the community’s right to express its position on this matter. However, we are also committed to the artists who worked tirelessly on this documentary and to the individuals who were brave enough to share their stories on camera. Therefore, we stand by our mission to share this film with audiences.

We appreciate the continued support of our fans and look forward to engaging in further discussions on this matter as we navigate these important conversations.

Sincerely,

The Producers of Hunting Matthew Nichols
